DSTAR REFLECTOR 61
REF061 was created by Jason Morgan, K4SHP, some years ago under the premise that it would be a South Carolina Reflector for emergency communications, however, D-STAR has never really gained much attraction or attention in South Carolina.
REF061 had been mainly a silent Reflector up until about 3 years ago. Then I, Sam Smith, started promoting this Reflector on social media and, also, engaging with the Amateur Radio Community. At that time we only had a few Ham Operators who started using this Reflector. Some never came back because there was very little, if any, activity. It was hard keeping interest in something that wasn’t used much. Long Story short, my constant promoting on social media finally caught the attention of a few hams who were looking for a “home” and REF061C seemed to very well be that place.
It has been a long difficult road, spending countless hours promoting Reflector 061. This was not for one person, but for all the Hams who wanted and needed a place to call home. We all wanted the same things: to feel welcomed and not to feel as though we were intruders. REF061C is not by no means a Utopia or heaven, but it IS a haven for those that want to build relationships through Amateur Radio (D-Star) and it IS a place anyone, who would like, can call home. We are " The Reflector That Never Sleeps." This motto was contributed by Phil, a staunch member from New Zealand (ZL2RO). People throughout the world are gravitating to REF061C, thus with all the different time zones involved, the user is very likely to make a contact, no matter when they sign on to this Reflector. Unlike some other International Reflectors, REF061-C encourages users to talk and enjoy themselves.
Our only rules, if you can call them that, are to be courteous and professional. Courteous, in that we like to talk, constantly remembering that there are others that may be on this Reflector. Occasionally, someone in the conversation may stop and identify and ask if there is anyone who would like to join the conversation or use the Reflector and, if so, please come now. Professional, in that we identify, verbally, at least every 10 minutes and there is no profanity or hate language (as per FCC Part 97).
Even though this website was created to promote activity on REF061C please be sure to check out REF061B as well.
